The “Sesto Rocchi Open Chamber Music Festival” will be held in San Polo d’Enza, Reggio Emilia (29th July – 4th August 2019 – Arrival of musicians on July 28th afternoon) in the name of Sesto Rocchi, the great violin maker of the 20th century, who was born and worked there during his life. Its main feature is a master class for string quartet and chamber music ensembles. The classes take place in the residential house of the Maestro, where it is possible to see his atelier as it was when he passed away in 1991.
Concerts and other events:
In the evenings, concerts will be given at Chiesa del Castello in San Polo d’Enza, while at 11 AM short open air concerts will be given in the centre of the village. San Polo is a pleasant village located on the river Enza which is the border between Reggio Emilia and Parma provinces. See the map. This area, with ruins of Canossa Castle and the beautiful Rossena Castle nearby, brings to mind the Middle Ages in the epoch of Matilde di Canossa. Other noteworthy features are the Torrechiara, Bianello Castles, Petrarca poetic site in Selvapiana, the Pieve and the Castle in San Polo itself. The area is also appealing for gastronomic attractions, since it is the original area of Parmigiano Reggiano and the area of the seasoning of the celebrated Prosciutto di Parma (Parma Ham). In the restaurants, culinary traditions of “Cucina Reggiana” live on.
For the musicians: Three categories of players will be admitted:
– Young players who aim at a professional career and are preparing for contests – Amateur players of any age
– Children and young students of music schools
